I’m so excited that you are here!  Let me take a minute to introduce myself and share a bit of my journey into medical aesthetics with you.

Growing up, I was into everything — horseback riding, basketball, chorus, synchronized swimming, ice skating, beauty pageants.  You name it, my mom probably let me do it.  When it came to a career choice, it took me a while to figure out my passion because there was so much I was interested in.

A chance medical mission to Honduras when I was 17 ignited my interest in the medical field.  So, I graduated from the University of Mobile in 2011 with my RN degree.  From there I started my nursing career in the MICU at Nashville General Hospital where I learned tons of invaluable information from some amazing nurses and doctors taking care of very sick patients.  I became Charge Nurse and House Supervisor along the way.  In 2014, I transitioned to Vanderbilt Trauma ICU where I felt like a baby nurse all over again.  The patients were sicker, the work was harder, the shifts were longer, but I loved it and learned more than I ever could have imagined.  During my time at Vanderbilt, I became a Preceptor, was a member of the Preceptor Committee, a Relief Staff Leader, and ran CRRT.

While critical care nursing is exciting and rewarding it is very emotionally and physically exhausting.  So, after eight years of ICU nursing, it was time for a change.

I have always loved hair, makeup, and fashion and was seeking a way to combine my medical career and my love for all things beauty-related and BAM!, I found Aesthetic Nursing.  One day in 2018, I visited Davis Aesthetics and found Joshua Davis, RN BSN, and small world, he was a previous Vanderbilt trauma nurse too! At the end of my appointment, I casually mentioned to him that “I have no idea what I would be doing, but if you ever need another nurse injector, I will do anything I need to do to be that.”

About two months later, I was working a shift in the Vandy TICU and I received a phone call from Joshua Davis asking if I was serious about my previous offer.  I said absolutely and I started working for him in March of 2018.

So, at Davis Aesthetics I did a residency program where I strictly studied facial anatomy, learned about the different types of neurotoxins and dermal fillers, and shadowed Josh daily to observe his techniques.  That lasted for six months before I could even touch a face with neurotoxins.  Then it was another six months before I was able to inject fillers.  This training was invaluable to me in this residency process because I was able to immerse myself in safe injecting techniques firsthand, books, online training, videos and have constant instruction and discussions with Josh.

I have since gone on to train with the likes of Julie Horn, Limor Weinberg, ARNP, Sarah Berg, BSN RN, and Dr. Dina BenDavid, DNP, MS, FNP-C, just to name a few.

Continuing education is so important as things in this industry, as well as others, evolve, so I subscribe to Patreon so I can watch videos of other amazing injectors like Erika Barry, NP-C, MSN, and Julie Kaplan, FNP-BC.

I truly feel like I have found my place.  Everyone’s perfection is different.  It’s not about vanity, it’s about your perception of yourself.  My mission at Phi Aesthetics is to provide safe aesthetic procedures, appropriate for your wants and needs, and give you lasting, natural results.  I would be honored to help you define YOUR perfection.

Phi Aesthetics is proud to introduce you to our new injector Lauren Cathey.  We love her and we know you will too!  Please take a moment to read her story.

Excited doesn’t begin to define what I feel about this new chapter in my life at Phi Aesthetics.

Medical aesthetics is a very difficult field to get in to.  Much like some other fields such as floral design, electricians, even plumbing and auto mechanics; you have to have someone teach you the ropes.  And often, it’s about who you know or can get to know, as in my case.

I’m a native of McMinnville, Tennessee.  I loved growing up there.  Soccer was my life and my team was part of my family.  I even played travel soccer in the summers.

When it came time to decide what I was going to do with the rest of my life I chose nursing.  Nurses work in teams and I felt like it was a respectable profession and I could help people and I’ve always been a helper.  Look for the helpers in times of trouble, they say.  They also say timing is everything.  I moved to Franklin to attend Columbia State and completed my RN degree.  I then completed my Bachelors of Science in Nursing at University of Alabama, Huntsville.  My first job as an RN was in the ICU at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville, TN.  I worked there for two years.  I decided to transition to travel nursing in early 2019, and see the country.  As luck would have it, COVID came along.

Let me tell you, my experience of being on a team came in real handy.  Suffice it to say, I saw it all and much of it was heart-breaking.  But I also saw the best, in my coworkers.  We were complete strangers when we met but after 9 months of keeping each other together, we ended up family.  I’ll always be grateful for what I learned about myself and the friendships forged during that time.

It was early in my travel nursing career that I began hearing about medical aesthetics and researching how to get started in the field.  I found Victoria Presley, aka ToxPresley, on Instagram and really loved what she was doing in the field.  So, I started Insta-stalking her.

Not long after that, she started offering Shadow Days where you can just come and observe her doing her thing, to see what the field is really all about and if you would like doing it.  I was hooked.  Needless to say, I wore her down and after about a year she agreed to take me on as an apprentice.

While I’m just a few months into my training, I’m excited about my aesthetics journey. This chapter in my career will allow me to help others but in different ways; building them up, helping them feel more beautiful and confident.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my husband and our black lab, Nova.  And, when I’m not at the clinic injecting, you’ll find me in the gym, on the lake or spending time with family and friends.

I am originally from Dickson, TN. I graduated from Vanderbilt University with my B.A. in 2011. I spent a year in medical research prior to attending Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine where I graduated with honors in 2016. I went on to specialize in Internal Medicine and completed both my internship and residency from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. I graduated in 2019 and relocated back to Nashville, TN. I started my career in medicine as a Hospitalist in August of that year and served the patients of Dickson, TN throughout the COVID pandemic. Due to my growing family, I transitioned to primarily outpatient medicine at The Frist Clinic in Nashville, TN, where I continue to work today.

I have always had an interest in skin care and even did extra training in Dermatology during my medical residency. During COVID, I was given an opportunity to partner with a medical spa and since then, I have grown in my knowledge of medical aesthetics including skin care regimens, procedures, and injectables. I truly love this industry and am excited to partner with Phi Aesthetics in enhancing your natural beauty!
